Deleting a previously reconciled transaction WILL cause you a BIG headache. I see clients do this way too often. Perhaps, better stated, clients ignore the warning depicted in the image.
Why is the warning important? QuickBooks Online (QBO) is trying to get your attention! You are about to delete or change a previously reconciled transaction. If you delete the transaction, your beginning balance in QBO will be off, and you will not be able to reconcile the next month until you resolve this issue. Not to mention, you reconciled successfully the last time, right? Why would you want to remove or change the amount of any previously reconciled transaction?
Now, if you wanted to change a memo in a transaction, or perhaps you discovered a transaction was mistakenly posted to the wrong General Ledger account, then you can safely do so and ignore the warning. But do NOT delete a previously reconciled transaction or change the amount of a previously reconciled transaction. Unless you want to wreak havoc on your prior reconciliations, DON’T DO IT.
